Your Guide to Mouth Taping
What is mouth taping?
Mouth taping is a practice intended to help prevent mouth breathing and encourage nasal breathing.
How does mouth taping work?
Employing the technique is as easy as it sounds—you simply put the tape over your lips before falling asleep. I’ve experimented with several different mouth tapes and have ultimately found Azazar’s X-shaped strips (available on Amazon) to be the most comfortable and effective.
The health benefits of mouth taping:
Deepens Sleep: Whenever I check my Oura Ring after a night of mouth taping, my sleep score is greatly improved.
Lowers Blood Pressure: The Oura Ring also reports that mouth taping successfully increases my respiratory rate, which can help lower my blood pressure.
Improves Oral Health: Just this week, I received rave reviews from my dentist, because mouth taping has put a stop to my teeth grinding habit.
Halts Sleep Apnea: I often experience sleep apnea when I sleep on my back, but when I pair the position with mouth tape, it isn’t triggered at all.
